and Fall is just a couple of weeks away. Harvest time is here...farmers' markets in the mountains are running low on peaches from South Carolina and Georgia...mountain barns are filled with massive bales of hay for their livestock's Winter meals...and the local nurseries are stocked with pumpkins,,,white ones, green ones, striped ones and, of course, orange ones.
Last Summer, while driving the backroads, I ran across a field full of harvested tobacco. I was fascinated by the way someone, I can't imagine a machine doing this, stacked the tobacco in the field like tepees. Across the road was another barn with tobacco hanging from the ceiling, curing and drying. Wow! What a smell! So, today I have uploaded "Tobacco Road" and another from my road trip featuring the front-porch-picker from Mast General. It's getting chilly on the Mountain...stay warm... |
