![]() Saturday morning, August 24th, The Art Cellar in Banner Elk, NC is hosting an "artist visit" with me...Pam, Mike and Liz have been very supportive of my painting career for many years, now, even before it became my "full-time" job.
My wife, Bobbie asked, "Aren't you nervous about doing this...what will you talk about?" Simple...me...and, of course, my paintings. One of the ones featured during the 10-noon Tour de Art event held every month at galleries and studios around the area is "Harrisburg, USA." It is a salute to my late father-in-law, Dr. Gordon Banzhoff. An OB-GYN, WW II veteran, helluva golfer, and all around fine American. Gordy and I were fast friends. One day, while waiting for our tee time, I asked him to take me on some of the backroads of his home town, to see the bank barns, homes and vistas. I was struck by the similarities between my home town of Memphis and, later, the similarities with the mountains of Western North Carolina. A simpler time...before clothes dryers...trees with the same lineage...clapboard houses with porches. The sun-faded flag painted on the side of the house is for you, Gords. Cheers. See you all Saturday morning...I hear they are having fried balogna/baloney (depending on where you were raised) sandwiches and you won't want to miss those...bound to be some of the latter in the talk about "me!" |
