Today is a special day! I try to say that everyday when I get up...but, today is special, indeed. It is the birthday of Paul Cezanne, one of my favorite Masters.
It is also the day that I post my first painting of the new year, 2013. I have been "on vacation," "gone fishing," whatever you want to call it since I left Grandfather Mountain in mid-October. So, in honor of Paul and to kick off the new year, I painted something I have painted before...in fact, it is in the post that precedes this one--The Road to Grandfather. My first painting of the new year is an oil painting, only 8x10, but I am very pleased with the way it turned out. Since the new year began, I have settled into Naples, my "studio," and the warm weather and have begun drawing...always the first step before my brush hits the paper or canvas. I have two future watercolor paintings sketched and outlined on paper and three more oils laid out on boards and canvas and I am now ready to launch into them! Cezanne's paintings were full of passionate strokes...bold and beautiful. Cheers, Paul, et bon champs, med amis |
