Appalachian Wrangler OK...another big watercolor and this one falls somewhere between the fly fishing paintings and the cowboy series I wrote about last time.
Last year at this time, I finished a painting of a fisherman along the Watauga River in North Carolina called "Appalachian Angler." Just so happens there is a fly shop a hundred yards or so from where he was fishing by the same name. My son and I fished with one of their guides before and they are really nice people. In fact, one of the owners has a Memphis connection too...smaller world, huh. So, how is this a cowboy painting? Well, the fisherman is sporting his Stetson, Lucchese's and a pretty good size buckle...therefore, "Appalachian Wrangler." I like the multiple levels of water; a little hint of a mountain in the background; and some Carolina blue sky reflecting in the water that isn't shadowed by the trees. Oh, and it looks like this cowboy has roped him a goodun' too! Painting for a big show in June |
