In Florida, we have met and are developing a new group of friends. The Smiths are among them. Next week, who knows…I may be on a stone crab boat with some fellas showing me the ropes…I will need a rope…and a life vest…and something to hold onto besides my sketch pad and my Nikon…while I can stand up in a trout stream…I can't swim with the "stoneys"…stay tuned!
Today, this painting was delivered to the star of the scene, Craig Smith. His wife Elaine wanted to give him something special to help him remember his "world class trout fishing trip" to South America…and I have to agree…nothing better than to honor me by asking me to paint this scene from his trip. Craig has had the incredible joy of fly-fishing some of the most acclaimed rivers and streams in the world. For those of you who cast a fly now and then, you know it is an incredible passion. The beautiful, natural flashes of light in the riffles; the drama of the "hunt" and the "sprint" by the native trout to its hiding place through the rocks in the shoals…why this one ran completely off the page!
