 Long Day, Montana After a two-week "break," driving to NC, setting up my studios (oil and watercolor), and getting used to the mountains again...I am settling in for the spring and summer and fall. When I have been "off" like that, I always go back to what's comfortable...I draw until I feel confident of the drawing...then I usually start with watercolors, the medium I chose 40+ years ago. Today, i'll start some oil paintings. It is Spring here. Shoots from daffodils and lilies are sprouting. Trees have new limbs and the tiniest little leaves beginning to pop. And, forsythia, the true beacon of Spring are everywhere. I see deep burgundy trillium flowers on my walks with Callie, natural rhododendrons blooming in magenta...it is a great time to throw a little color on paper or canvas.  Elk River Spring These two paintings are for a one-man show at Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects in Memphis that opens on June 14th. I am so excited! More about that as I get closer to it!
It is probably the fifth or sixth show at ANFA, a great venue, that I have been part of in my painting career. Lee Askew has been a very supportive friend for a very long time. In fact, ANFA is sponsoring another show that opens in early May, "A Retrospective of Jason Williamson," that features the late Memphis College of Art professor, his students and colleagues and others who were inspired by him. I am honored to be a part of that show too, along with Dolph Smith, Connie Hendrix and others, including my mentor and friend, Fred Rawlinson. Well, I am warmed up now...muscles stretched, fingers popped, brain alert...time to go start those oils. The framer is waiting. |
