'Maters Oil on canvas 12x24
unless you live in SW Florida…you can have tomatoes all year 'round down there!
I just uploaded four new paintings--Cherokee Purple, Mr. Stripey, 'Maters (seen above) and Tomato Shack. The latter was the origin of the other three paintings, all oils. After driving by the Tomato Shack on NC 105 S at the entrance of Boone for years, I finally stopped, whipped out my camera and went to town…I mean I took a lot of pictures.
You know, I said to myself that when I retired the last time, I was going to stop driving by things that caught my eye and pull over…take pictures…and then I would have them for painting subjects whenever I wanted. Good thing I have been doing that. The Tomato Shack seen in the watercolor is no more! It is just another mountain heirloom. It closed some time between last fall and this spring. I guess it's hard to get Immokalee, Florida tomatoes up in the mountains in the winter.
